1-Farewell to  Dr. Ibrahim Hamdan.

            Dr. Ibrahim Hamdan merits deepest gratitude to his fruitful achievement and contribution to AARINENA. In spite of his retirement Dr. Hamdan hasn’t been niggard with his valuable help and advices upon request.  He is still in contact with the Executive Secretary and well acquainted with all AARINENA’s activities and issues.

 

2-Dr. Mohammad El Tamzini the new Trust Fund Operating Officer of AARINENA.

On the other hand we would like to welcome and congratulate Dr. Tamzini with his new position as AARINENA‘s Trust Fund Operating Officer and we hope that a new period of cooperation will last, full of success, for the prosperity of AARINENA and its country members.

  

3-The establishment of Web site for AARINENA by RAIS project.

The establishment of AARINENA web site is a part of the Regional Agricultural Information System (RAIS).  Implementing this system properly needs first to engage the International Organizations in the region to be part of the development of the AARINENA web site and to prepare for a project for the RAIS.

It was agreed that the renewal of the AARINENA website will be based primarily on resources from international/regional organizations, based on the generous offers of resources by those present (AARINENA, GFAR, ICARDA, UAE, FAO, CIHEAM, CGIAR, IFAD, CLAES, CIRAD, CABI, AOAD).  The task will be undertaken by a Webmaster to be appointed by ICARDA in close consultation with IPGRI, and that this person will co-ordinate inputs from the various parties where FAO will take responsibility for registration of the domain:

The main elements to be developed in this first phase will be the Management Information System and the Regional Reference Center.  Metadata will be developed for as many items/objects as possible. According to the RAIS workshop recommendations, AARINENA Web site is going to be established through the support of FAO, ICARDA and CIHEAM. The President of AARINENA, Dr. Mustafa Yaghi has agreed gratefully on these recommendations.
