Regional Meeting on CWANA Agricultural Research Priority Setting, Aleppo (Syria) 8-10 May 2002
The
overall goal of this regional consultation is to enhance the effectiveness of
the CGIAR centers in working with the NARSs in order to better address the key
priority agricultural problems and challenges at the sub-regional and/or
regional level. A major expected outcome of the meeting would be a renewed
NARS/NARS and NARS/CGIAR partnership and integration that would foster
efficiency, synergy and impact of agricultural research.
This
regional meeting will rely on a participatory approach, which aims to identify,
on a consensus basis, common agricultural research priorities best handed at the
sub-regional and/or regional level. It will be attended by senior
representatives from Central and West Asia and North Africa (CWANA) countries,
including NARIs, universities, NGOs, the private sector, farmers’
organizations, etc., as well as representatives from UN and non-Un
organizations, and CG and non-CG centers. This regional consultation thus
represents a great opportunity for CWANA NARSs to re-visit their agricultural
research priorities and identify areas of congruence in collaboration with their
CG and non-CG partners.
