In recent years AARINENA has made significant progress in strengthening collaboration among WANA countries, but the need to implement Joint Agricultural Research Projects is crucial for the agricultural development of the region. Such projects cannot be carried out without the appointment of full time Executive Secretary to AARINENA with a stable location and budget in order to follow up the coordination among the focal points of different stakeholders in the sub-regions.
During this period the Association has fulfilled many activities:
In Malta meeting constitutional amendments and rules and
regulations have been proposed and discussed by the Executive Committee members
and the FAO legal officer.
During Washington meeting a Virtual Mediterranean Forum in Agricultural
Research for Development (ARD) has been proposed by GFAR and AARINENA in order
to develop and strengthen research partnership between Europe and WANA region,
this is of utmost importance for the complementation and coordination of
AARINENA activities with regional and international research proposals.
NARSs leaders and international scientific organizations and
donors are well documented by two directories published with the help and
support of ICARDA and FAO, to facilitate communication and establishment of
projects of common interest.
Exchanging information and sharing knowledge needs to enforce the
Regional Information System (RAIS) aiming to strengthen communication among
national and international research focal points. That is why the establishment
of AARINENA website as a part of RAIS will facilitate the dissemination of
knowledge system for ARD in WANA region.
The next Executive committee meeting for AARINENA will be held in Kuwait during the first International Conference on Biotechnology- Application for the Arid Region in April 2001.
