Discussion on the generation of transgenic cereals for the WANA region
This discussion was asked to run by the "Gene transfer,
expression and regulation group"
in the AARINENA Biotechnology Network.
The group is developing research on cereals (mainly wheat and barley) and
focusing on abiotic stresses (drought, salinity and heat). It generate some
transgenic wheat plants using Agrobacterium tumefaciens that perform well under
salt stress and drought conditions in greenhouse.
Prof. Khaled Masmoudi, the new leader of the group , has proposed to start the
discussion on the generation of transgenic cereals for the WANA region which
constitutes the origin of biodiversity for wheat.
