Conservation and sustainable
use group
There are a lot of direct and indirect signs of
reduction in the spectrum of useful plant communities including species utilized
for medicinal and aromatic purposes. This reduction can lead to the loss forever
of valuable chemotaxa that could be used in the production of important drugs.
Inventory and mapping should be done for all medicinal and aromatic plant
species. Conservation should be focusing on medicinal and aromatic plant species
using both ex situ and in situ approaches. Exploitation and preservation of
these resources would require effective coordination at international,
governmental and institutional levels .The conservation group should follow the
following objectives :
• Assessment the distribution and the presence of medicinal plant species in the
region
• Identify species that are in high demand by human and livestock in region
• Identify possible endemic medicinal plant species, including their habitat
characteristics
• Assessment of the ethno-pharmacological value of the identified species.
